The Original100-Gallon Classroom Touch Tank was designed by Jean Giberson, an elementary school teacher from West Harpswell, Maine. Jean used aquariums as educational tools for years with aggravating success. Common aquariums were hard to maintain with their durability suspect. Jean had a vision of a better aquarium-a durable water lab that was easy to maintain and interactive so that her students could get up close and personal with some of the intriguing creatures that call the ocean home. After a long and arduous search, Jean discovered Marine Ecological Habitats the Biddeford, Maine based company that added Jean’s educational Touch Tank to their product line after the company’s President observed the reaction of Ms. Giberson’s students interacting with the Touch Tank. Since the first Touch Tank was built in 2002, Touch Tanks for Kids has helped nearly 100 educators raise the money necessary to add the Touch Tank Teaching System to their educational programs. Touch Tanks for Kids is extremely motivated to make it  possible for any school or educational center to raise the money to benefit from the Touch Tank Educational Program.

Construction

The Original 100-Gallon Classroom Touch Tank is a self-contained unit with an overall size is 60” long, 32” Wide, and 36” high. It is prefect for classroom instruction!.The top of the tank is manufactured out of .75” thick clear acrylic.  With proper care, this material is very durable. The base is manufactured with .75” polypropylene.  This material is categorized in the mechanical plastics family.  It is durable, however not transparent like acrylic.
